The month for which the Sahaba-i-Keram (??? ???? ?????? ?????) used to wait just as one waits for a dear and valued guest, is here again. The well-known tabayee, Mualli bin Fazal (???? ???? ????), talking abut the enthusiasm, the impatience with which the Sahaba-i-Keram used to wait for the beginning of Ramadhan-ul-Mubarak says, For six months they used to pray, Ya Allah! let us live till the month of Ramadhan, and after that for the rest of the year they used to pray, Ya Allah! accept one salat and saum. TARÂAWIH SALAH - EIGHT RAKÂATS OR TWENTY?

There is a growing misconception among present-day Muslims (especially the younger generation) that the Tarâwih Salâh which is performed during the month of Ramadhân constitutes eight rakâts only. This is however incorrect because:



1. It is in conflict with the Sunnah

2. It is in conflict with the Ijmâ [consensus] of the Sahâbah (R.A.)

3. It is in conflict with the Ijmâ (consensus) of the four madhâhib.
